Grant Process
The NCBS Board acts on grant applications on a quarterly basis (typically January, April, July, and October.)
Consultation is available from the NCBS County Coordinators — North Carolina Bluebird Society and the Grants Program Coordinator (jafreedman90@gmail.com).
County Coordinators will be notified of a local grant application.
* Grant applications to support activities #1 and #2 above must demonstrate compliance with guidance from the North American Bluebird Society (see Fact Sheets & Plans – North American Bluebird Society and carries with it a long-term commitment to: 1) correctly site the nestboxes, 2) conduct the required minimum weekly monitoring during the nesting season, 3) perform the necessary maintenance and repair of the boxes each year thereafter, 4) annually report nest data to NCBS using their data form.
The North Carolina Bluebird Society (NCBS) awards small grants to individuals and organizations in North Carolina to promote and provide suitable habitat for the Eastern Bluebird, and to increase awareness of their needs and the needs of other native cavity-nesting birds.
Grant Availability
Grants are awarded to:
Establish new bluebird nestbox trails.*
Repair, replace, or add nestboxes, poles, predator guards on existing bluebird nestbox trails.*
Conduct educational activities that benefit the Eastern Bluebird.
Create, purchase, or duplicate bluebird displays or promotional materials.
Grants will not normally exceed $400 and may be fully or partially funded - subject to availability of funds.
Grant Requirements
Grant requests must be submitted using the 2026 NCBS Grant Application form.
Grant recipients must be (or become) NCBS members prior to grant award.
A subsequent grant may be considered only after completion of the previous project and all reporting requirements have been met.
A Letter of Commitment must be submitted with the Grant Application for projects where successful completion or maintenance depends on actions or approvals of other partners
(i.e. individuals, organizations, schools, governmental institutions, businesses, etc.)
